Some of our Wonders in Water

The Association have compiled some footage of microscopic creatures which we hope to share with you. This footage has been donated to some schools and a college for the purpose of education. Some of the footage was obtained from our inexpensive computer microscope which is basically a child's toy. The footage is grainy but is filmed in real time. The other footage was obtained by rigging up a basic microscope and a digital camcorder backed up by torch light, again the footage is not great but it shows in some details the structures of some of tiny, little seen creatures. In one piece of film you will see a Hydra catching and consuming Daphnia which is magnified at 60x. Hydra are named after the Mythological creature with had many heads.
We hope to raise enough funds this year to allow us to purchase a decent computer microscope through sponsored events. One event planned is a sponsored walk of the entire length of the river by two teams, this will also enable us to check for management issues such as blockages etc.
