We think that the blue tit was stung to death by wasps which had decided to use the nest box too. The wasp bike was lying on the floor of the box and was either knocked down by the blue tit prior to be stung or during the ensuing struggle while being stung. Either way sadly the blue tit died. This type of conflict must go on all over the country in nest boxes unnoticed by anyone, so if you are checking your nest boxes be careful their may be something a bit more sinister than a blue tit inside it. This is Nest Box 4 our observation box, it has been cleaned out and hopefully another blue tit may take up residence.

I know it's bad coming from a passionate conservationist like me, but it's so awful...and you know what I feel about wasps! That poor wee Blue Tit! I really hope none of the other boxes have suffered the same fate?!
