This nymph is a large Stonefly ( Plecoptera) which like clean well oxygenated water, these are one of the species used by biologists etc to monitor water quality. Full details can be viewed on our web page. This particular species rates a score of 10 which is the highest. If they are placed in a limited supply of water as the oxygen is used up they insect begins to do press-ups to force more water through their gills which are located on body between the legs.
